Henderson (Ruth Henderson Memorial Scholarship Fund)

Key Criteria:

  • Need based, available only to graduates of schools in the Eastern Plains area.

The Ruth Henderson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor Mrs. Henderson’s life-long dedication to teaching and community service.

One or more awards are made each year. Awards are equal to one year’s worth of base tuition and university-wide fees, for up to 15-credit hours per semester (Fall and Spring) at the accredited, publicly funded Colorado college or university of the student’s choice. The award amount will be increased by $1,000 per academic year to assist scholarship recipients with the purchase of required learning materials.

The scholarship may be renewed for up to three years, as funds allow, in accordance with the Community Foundation’s scholarship policies. The selection committee may also consider applications from current recipients who are preparing to attend graduate school.

Criteria: U.S. citizen and Colorado resident who is eligible for in-state tuition rates; will attend an accredited, publicly funded college or university in Colorado; able to demonstrate financial need, as documented on a submitted FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) report; senior or recent graduate at a high school located in Morgan, Washington, Logan, Yuma, Phillips or Sedgwick Counties, or a senior or recent graduate from Prairie High School, Pawnee High School or Briggsdale High School (applicants who earn a high school diploma or equivalent within two years of the date of application are eligible to apply; students from private schools and those who have been home schooled are eligible to apply). (Note: Scholarship awards are intended to assist students who demonstrate financial need but who are not eligible for PELL grants.) Preference will be given to applicants who have an interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education and who can demonstrate the potential to be successful in their post-secondary educational journey.

Students seeking renewal of a scholarship award must provide [directly to CFNC as instructed, not through this application system]:
• Proof of a cumulative 3.0 GPA. (If the student’s cumulative GPA falls below 3.0, the scholarship award will continue for a one-semester probationary period to give the student the opportunity to increase the cumulative GPA to the required level.)
• A semester update, including a statement attesting that his/her financial status, and that of his/her family, has not changed significantly since the time of application.
• The upcoming [spring/fall] semester’s class schedule so CFNC can calculate the award amount based on a maximum of 15 credits.
